U.S. Coast Guard officials, along with local law enforcement, are on the Great South Bay searching for Samuel Gutierrez, 47, of East Islip, who went overboard around 11 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, said the Suffolk County Police.

The incident took place near Heckscher State Park, said Coast Guard spokesman Petty Officer Hunter Medley.

Gutierrez, who was aboard a 34-foot Fountain boat with two women, went overboard without a life jacket and never resurfaced. The women, who could not operate the boat, called for help.

Suffolk County Police Department marine bureau and aviation section officers responded to search for Gutierrez, along with the Coast Guard who sent a boat from Fire Island, Medley said.

A helicopter from Cape Cod made a pass over the area at first light to help search for the missing 47-year-old man, officials said.
